lf I have an outdoor garden train set, what is the best way to protect the track from the winter rains?
I’m setting up a G scale garden train and I’m concerned about just leaving the track to the elements. I don’t want to pull it up but I don’t want to just leave it to the rain either. Any experienced train enthusiasts have any solutions for this or am I just being too detailed. The track I’ll be using will be brass.
There are forums and clubs out there specifically for garden trains. I think they would be able to help you.

Does anyone know the best way to remove tar from clothing please?
My son knelt against a railway sleeper in his girlfriend’s garden and got a stripe of tar across the leg of his favourite jeans. Does anyone know how we can get it out, other than cutting the jeans up into shorts, a suggestion he is is very resistant to.
Many thanks

What type of controller do you need for more than 2 model trains on a model railway?
Im going to get more trains for model railway and i was wondering if you need a certain type of controller to have more than 2 trains
Thanks
By getting a DCC controller and making sure each engine is DCC equipped, the limitation to how many engines can run at once is making sure the controller can supply the amps needed for all the engines. The DCC controller sends a coded signal through the track and each engine only picks up it’s signal to know what direction to run at what speed. There are some great DCC systems available including MRC, Bachman, Lenz, and my favorite; Digitrax. These are available for all the popular scales of train.

Any model train enthusiasts out there? What scale do you like?
I love trains! I am almost 50 and I got my first one a month ago – shocked my husband that I liked them! I have the “Polar Express.” We also have some LGB, O scale, a couple of HO and a Z scale (Disneyland). My “Hogwarts Express” should be here in a couple of weeks.
Just curious if there are any other train nuts out there!
We went to a train show in Fullerton CA on Sunday. The layouts were amazing! The had a refurbished Disneyland engine that was beautiful.
When all the kids have moved out, hopefully soon, 1/3 of our garage will be all trains!
I started in HO scale when I was about 12… sadly my Dad sold the layout when I was in the Navy.
I am now 43, and in the midst of building an N-scale layout in my 10 x 12 ft bedroom !! I had to go with N-scale because I simply didn’t have room for the HO radius turns I would need. I’ve been working on it for the last year and have learned one very important thing… plan, Plan, and PLAN some more !!
My layout is a dual-mainline loop around the walls depicting parts of the CALTRAIN and ACE passenger routes here in Northern California… I have also included 4 spurs for local industries and a large yard representing Stockton-yard.
Interesting… I got started in RRing again after doing a “Hogwarts Express” layout for a friends Candy & Gift Shop during Xmas of 2005 !!
Good luck !! There are a number of pretty good Yahoo! Groups on the Model Train topic !!

ho scale trains – how is the best way to start in the hobby?
I have been reading the magazines for years, but really don’t know where or how to start…do I buy the “sets” or individually? What about landscaping, towns, etc.?
Too many sets are low quality. I would individually buy quality hobby brands in HO. Do not buy anything from toy or discount stores in HO. I would highly agree with the person that answered before me that you should not decide on HO immediately.

Here is a good yahoo group link. Just approximately double the size for HO.

G-Scale Train Speed Help!!???!!!?
I have two G-Scale Trains [LGB] and i would like to run them on the same track, The problem is that one of the trains is slower than the other, so they eventually catch each other up, is their anyway to make them equal speeds???
Yes, here are a couple of ways.
* the best and most expensive is DCC – there is tonnes of information on that, so you can search yourself.
* the cheapest is to add resistors and/or diodes in series with the motor of the faster locomotive, until it runs at the same speed as the slower one. Generally, this will work well at only one speed setting.
Adding weights will not have any significant effect.

Milwaukee Train Station?
I live in Milwaukee and I am trying to plan a trip to Chicago. This one woman I used to know told me that she would frequently go down to Chicago, and took a train for only a few dollars. She said the station was either in Racine or Kenosha. But when I look it up, I am having trouble finding it.
I looked at the Amtrack website and it’s $44 so I really don’t think that’s what she was talking about.
Could anyone give me a website with the prices and station?
I am pretty sure that it’s not this either:

Unless that is all set-up now?
No.. It was recent. She was taking these trips while I was in grooming school with her around 2 years ago.
You would need to ask her.
I take the train down to Chicago frequently, and its like $22-25 from the station by the airport to Union Staion in downtown Chicago. There is also a station in Sturtevant WI, which would probably be a cheaper ticket, but I doubt it’s only a ‘few dollars’.
